Magazine Draft

This is my magazine advert. The picture I used as the main image did not really need editing as in using spot healing tool and airbrushing this is because the original photo already had the airbrush affect this is due to the lighting creating a aesthetics look, which is used in pop genre. The only editing I applied to the phone was using the magic wand tool to delete the background and put a new background on.

Images I choose for my digipak and advert

This image is used for my CD advert, the reason why I choose this image it's because it is appropriate and suitable for my Target Audience who are teenage girls. This image follows the culture of the genre pop because it has bright colors. When it comes to pop music advert female artist tend to pose in a way that is endearing and fetching because it appeals toward their target audience so therefore this image is suitable for a poster advert.

The picture on the left is used inside of the digipak, the image in the middle is used for the front cover and the image on the right is used for the back. The reason why I chose the image in the middle for the front cover is because the image was appropriate, the artist is posed in a serious but cute way looking directly to her target audience. Whereas the image on the left shows her fun side which relates to her ideologies, she is a fun, out going, loving teenage girl. so therefore it's suitable for the target audience

1st Draft digipak

Editing my digipak and advert

Digpak
Editing my pictures that I want to use for my digipak. I've picked 3 different pirctures to be used in my digipak, I will be creating a 4 panel digipak and the house colours of my digipak will be dark red and light lilac. This pircture below is going to be used as my front cover, I will be using airbrush and healing tool to smooth out the artist skin.
The first thing I did was get rid of the original background this is because there was crease lines on the backdrop we used which therefore I had to get rid of all of the background to my best after I would select the picture and paste it on. I've chosen a colour background similar to the original backdrop in the picture so that it could blend it together.
Here's print shots of me editing the pictures.

Final Digipak edit
My final editing for my Digipak was that I added collages of hearts which has different colours, I placed the hearts behind the artist on the front cover, at the back of the track list and on the inside swell. This is to add more colour onto the Digipak since my first draft looked very plain and so I decided to add an affect of hearts to give it more colour and it relates back to the genre of the art its which is pop. How I did the heart was to fill in the colours into the heart, so then I would need to get rid of the colours and placed another colour on top.

Before and after digipak

Advert
When it came to creating my advert I wanted to put the hearts i used on the digipak into the digipak so that it connects. Also what I did for the advert was to place the image onto a new background colour and placed the title on top of the heart so that it could stand out. I placed images of the CD cover, label, title and other texts into illustrator because I've edited them in photoshop which is helpful because all i need is to save the image and place it into illustrator. I did change few things around such as adding in new editing texts so that I can make sure that the texts stands out.

Hand drawn magazine advert layout

Hand drawn layout for my digipak

This is my hand drawn layout of my digipak, the front cover and back cover of where all the track list is supposed to be upside down this is so that when it comes to folding the digpak it will go into the correct position.

Focus group feedback on the Music Video

After watching the feedback from the audience I was glad because we got positive comments about the music video and that they enjoyed watching the music video. This is because it showed that from using research and planning we had used the correct conventions and codes like the editing paste, camera work and mise en scene to make a pop genre music video which therefore shows that the music video corresponds with the pop genre. Also I was happy that the video had the quality of repeatability this is because from having a fun interesting narrative would get them to keep watching the video over and over again so that they could understand what is happening and also using bright colours and creative ideas would make the video fun to watch.

Overall it showed that the music video was successful from the target audience feedback on the video. The music video was successful because we used the codes and conventions of a pop genre music video that would be suitable for the target audience and attracts them so that it corresponds with the genre, which is therefore why I think that the music video is successful. This also showed that we made a huge improvement of the video when we created the first draft which had a lot of negative comments we used those to improve the video making it better and fun to watch.

Audience profile

Name:Sophie
Occupation:College Student
Age:18
Beliefs: Never give up and keep chasing your dreams. Don't let anyone bring you down.

What music do you listen to?
"I like to listen to mainstream pop music. Radio music type of genre (Pop) I could say, like Capital FM and Kiss100"

What do you like to see in a music video?
"I enjoy music videos that are bubbly and light as in videos that are fun to watch and has bright features in it. Music videos like Lady Gaga - Eh Eh, Katy Perry - Teenage dream and Cover Drive - Twilight music videos.

Name a music video that you like and why?
"There's a lot of music videos out there that I like but it all has to do with the song, storyline of the video and the muse-en-scene like lighting (bright), costumes and many more" I say the latest 2014 music video I like so far is Katy Perry - Dark Horse. The video is just amazing, has great settings, the video isn't dark it's bright containing colours like purple, pink and many more. Also the beat of the song is just catchy and so it fits perfectly well with the video"

Who are your favourite artist?
"I don't have one particular artist that I focus on the most, I just like general mainstream artist like, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Pixie Lott and many more"

Audience research & feedback

Watching this feedback from our target audience on our music video draft. We have discussed on ways how to improve the music video by making the concept (structure) of the video clear so that the audience can understand what’s going on and create quality of repeatability on the video. Another way to improve is to cut scenes shorter because it creates the vibe of a film and not a music video and to make the intertextual references more clears so that they could spot what the intertextual references are. Also to make the video match with the song because the video right now does not connect with the beat which makes shows the editing of the video is very slow which therefore we need to make sure that the video matches with the song.

The reason why we carried out an audience feedback is because we wanted to find out our audiences views and ideas on the music video. Also it assisted our development as it shows us if we were heading in the right direction in terms of relatability with the audience and the genre

Second Draft Love whiplash

This is our second draft of our music video, there has been a problem which occurred when this video was being exported this is due to when one of the members were editing a certain scene which will make the other parts move out of place and start earlier or later. When we come back from half term we will fix everything back to place and maybe add more ideas we just don't know yet. Comparing this to our first draft a lot has changed and more ideas were involved. I think there has been a big imporvement to our first draft more ideas were inserted making the video more fun to watch and exciting.

Ideas of adding animation/graphics onto our video

We wanted to have animation added in to make it a comedy like video which would be fun for the viewers to watch also it was part of our idea when we was explaining about using references from Roy Lichtenstein pop art so researched more into pop arts animation so that we can use and add it into the video.  Also we looked at any music video that had any art animation added onto the video in which we did find which as a JPOP/KPOP music video Girls Generation - Beep Beep

Analysis of Digipak

Today in lesson in groups with Karolina and Kelechi we picked out two digipaks to analyse which were Justin Bieber Believe and Bumblebeez.

The questions which were layer out for us to answer as we are analysing the digipaks are:
1) How has the artist been promoted in each example ?
2) How has the audience been addressed?
3) How does the textual information reflect the artist and the audience - look at the track listing in particular?
4) Is there a clear link between the artwork and music videos from the CD

Justin Bieber digipak

How has the audience been addressed?
His fan's / audience are drawn through by the pictures, his fans find him very attractive and would be able to spot him. Also to others he's very recognisable.
However there's not direct mode contact with his fan's this is because no matter what his audience will come and purchase the CD due to his popularity and looks.

How does the textual information reflect the artist and the audience - look at the tracking listing in particular?
The track listing of the songs are personalised which makes the audience feel like Justin's songs are for them. (example - Take You, Thought of You, Be Alright)

Is there a clear link between the artwork and music video from the CD?
Watching Boyfriend and As long as you love music video links with the album due to the colour (gold, orange/reddish, black), and fashion style (swag)

Bumbleez digipak

How has the audience been addressed?
This digipak of Bumblebeez address their audience through the artwork of the CD. Such as the artwork of their CD are very creative, it doesn't feature the artist compared to Justin Bieber, these doodles seem like what they've been drawing when they recorded songs for this album to make it fun and connect to their audience who will be people that likes indie music (niche), late 90's and early 20's male audience.

How does the textual information reflect the artist and the audience - look at the track listing in particular?

The track list are hand written which suggest personalising and immaturity to connect with their audience who are male which listen to indie and are hippie like. Also the male audience would be layer back, easy going who doesn't care a lot of other things.

Is there a clear link between the artwork and the music video from the CD?

Filming 1970's singing

Today we filmed separate singing scene for our 1970's scene, we did the same for this decade as the 1960's scene where we have our female singer singing into the camera.  The equipments required for this was a yellow background, same costume as our 1970's park scene and make up.
- Tripod
- Camera
- Lighting
- Computer speakers to play the music out loud

Behind the scene of our shooting:

Here we have Jennifer who is doing the 1970's hair style as she did before for the 1970 park scene. The makeup were done by Lian & Karolina.
