Analysis of Digipak

Today in lesson in groups with Karolina and Kelechi we picked out two digipaks to analyse which were Justin Bieber Believe and Bumblebeez.

The questions which were layer out for us to answer as we are analysing the digipaks are:
1) How has the artist been promoted in each example ?
2) How has the audience been addressed?
3) How does the textual information reflect the artist and the audience - look at the track listing in particular?
4) Is there a clear link between the artwork and music videos from the CD

Justin Bieber digipak

How has the audience been addressed?
His fan's / audience are drawn through by the pictures, his fans find him very attractive and would be able to spot him. Also to others he's very recognisable.
However there's not direct mode contact with his fan's this is because no matter what his audience will come and purchase the CD due to his popularity and looks.

How does the textual information reflect the artist and the audience - look at the tracking listing in particular?
The track listing of the songs are personalised which makes the audience feel like Justin's songs are for them. (example - Take You, Thought of You, Be Alright)

Is there a clear link between the artwork and music video from the CD?
Watching Boyfriend and As long as you love music video links with the album due to the colour (gold, orange/reddish, black), and fashion style (swag)

Bumbleez digipak

How has the audience been addressed?
This digipak of Bumblebeez address their audience through the artwork of the CD. Such as the artwork of their CD are very creative, it doesn't feature the artist compared to Justin Bieber, these doodles seem like what they've been drawing when they recorded songs for this album to make it fun and connect to their audience who will be people that likes indie music (niche), late 90's and early 20's male audience.

How does the textual information reflect the artist and the audience - look at the track listing in particular?

The track list are hand written which suggest personalising and immaturity to connect with their audience who are male which listen to indie and are hippie like. Also the male audience would be layer back, easy going who doesn't care a lot of other things.

Is there a clear link between the artwork and the music video from the CD?

Filming 1970's singing

Today we filmed separate singing scene for our 1970's scene, we did the same for this decade as the 1960's scene where we have our female singer singing into the camera.  The equipments required for this was a yellow background, same costume as our 1970's park scene and make up.
- Tripod
- Camera
- Lighting
- Computer speakers to play the music out loud

Behind the scene of our shooting:

Here we have Jennifer who is doing the 1970's hair style as she did before for the 1970 park scene. The makeup were done by Lian & Karolina.

In today's lesson we learnt about CD digipaks such as analysing how these digipaks tell people who what kind of genre these artist are and who are their target market.

For example
we looked at two different kind of genre CD covers, one was dance covers and the other were mainstream pop.

We had to analyse two dance CDs and Two female pop CDs

These were the two dance CD we analysed, we had to talk about the comparison and the contrast between the two CD cover.

The comparison between the two is that they both feature the artist in it and has the title on top. The contrast is that Icona Pop artist image is a mid shot to show the male gaze and to see the fashion style because it helps audiences to recognise the genre of the CD which is dance pop. The audience of Icona Pop would be females who listen to pop dance music. Whereas Chromeo cover uses a low angle long shot of them. Their target market would be male geeks who are single and does not have a lot of social time.

We also analysed mainstream CD covers

The contrast and comparison between Taylor Swift and Lana Del Rey. The comparison is that the CD features the artist in the picture and taken from a mid shot. The contrast between the two is that the way these two artist is posed which helps audiences know what kind of market the CD is aiming for and the genre. Looking at taylor swift I feel that she's a pop artist because of the font and the way she is posing in the album. whereas Lana Del Rey has a straight, serious face which tells me that her songs are not pop but something that would be serious (alternative)

1960's singing

Today we filmed a singing scene where the female protagonist is singing to the camera, these were to help add more singing because in the diner there was a lot of action going on so it was hard to sing and be doing the action at the same time.

Here's the behind the scene

B Block - Very Good Music Video Review

In today's blog I will be reviewing on B Block's - Very Good comeback video.
This music video is very fun to watch which is different from there other videos because this is the only video that makes me want to watch it over and over again. Watching the video I can spot homage of Big Bang who are a Korean boy group which are very famous, they are known for their crazy out of the box style and videos.  Also I can see The Dark Knight homage and intertexual references within the video especially the Bank rob scene.

However what I don't understand is why would someone take off their mask as soon as they enter to rob the bank..? The point of robbing the bank is to take cash and no one will know your identity...Anyways in this music video I can spot fast pace editing and camera movement which makes the music video lively and energetic.

This video has a huge amount of intertexual references used which is the first video from what I've seen so far in my KPOP life the only video who uses this many intertexual references such as clothing, props and setting/location. The dance choreograph somehow made me laugh, i think it's maybe because the moves were ultra fun and high energy which perfectly suits with this whole song and video together.

The reason why we see Big Bang in the MV for "Very Good" is because Block B is parodying them. However it's not just Big Bang, either, it's a lot of other musical artist (2NE1 Miley Cyrus for example) ane even movies like The Dark Knights. The music video is not just a homage of Big Bang even though they certainly respect them.  In conclusion watching this music video made me focus on spotting intertuexal references of other artist.
